"The workers falling from the World Trade Center included a man and a woman holding hands." - N.Y. Daily News

So darkness came, and changed the sunlit world,
Blind hatred blasting thousands into dust,
Filling the sky with flame and pain and death
And one doomed couple falling hand in hand.

Honor their image, for those two linked hands
Contain the power to drive the dark away:
He is my brother, though I do not know him;
She is my sister, though I do not know her,
Together we preserve humanity.

All hands link now, to save and to console,
To mend, to guard, to love and to avenge
(Though eye for eye would blind the human race.)
Evil will fall into its own cold doom
When nations of all races and beliefs
Go hand in hand, to heal this altered world.
